Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Unit

SUSPI boasts a Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Unit which is accredited by the South African Sports Medicine Association (SASMA). The unit comprises on-site sports physicians and physiotherapists that follow an integrated, holistic approach. Services include the following:

Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute and Chronic Injuries

We apply a holistic approach right from pitch side (where the injury occurs), through to testing, treatment and eventual return to play. The process takes into consideration both the athlete's sporting code and level of play.

Concussion Management Programme

Our scientifically based concussion management programme consists of clinical diagnosis, examination, neuro-cognitive testing (when medically advisable) and sound return-to-play protocols.

Chronic Diseases and Diseases of Lifestyle

This comprises treatment and management of these conditions through a combination of medication and exercise.

Physiotherapy

This includes injury assessment, treatment and rehabilitation.

Healthy Athlete Programme and Medical Screenings

The key aspect is injury prevention through medical screening and other protocols in order to reduce the incident of injury and illness by identifying and correcting predisposing factors.

Emergency Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy Support (Events)

Our staff members contribute their knowledge and expertise to high profile sporting events and supply event medical support to all rugby games at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.

Easy Access to Hospital and Specialists

We are located in close proximity to a 24hr emergency care unit and specialist hospital. In addition, we have strong working relationships with various specialists in the region, with relevant referrals done on a regular basis.

Our Clients

Whereas we have a number of high profile athletes and teams on our client roster, it is important to note that we cater for both children and adults of all levels of play - from recreational to high performance.
