  Clients 

 

The Stellenbosch University Sport Performance Institute (SUSPI) has a diverse client base that comprises various members of the sporting community. These include national and international federations, high performance academies, professional teams, and a number of individual athletes. Other clients include the ABSA Cape Epic, as well as the various sports teams from the University of Stellenbosch (Maties) – a world-renowned sport university with a proud sporting heritage.

 

It is important to note that, while SUSPI's client base includes numerous "high-profile" clients, we also cater for schools, health conscious individuals, as well as the average sportsman who simply wants to reach his sporting potential.

National / International Federations:

 

International Rugby Board (IRB)

 

SUSPI has hosted exciting talent identification programmes presented by the IRB. These programmes aimed to establish a development pipeline for the next generation of high performance rugby coaches and referees in Africa and other developing rugby nations.

South African Sports Association for the Physically Disabled

 

SUSPI currently provides a wide range of services to a number of athletes with disabilities. A number of these athletes formed part of South Africa's highly successful Paralympic team that finished sixth on the medals table at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.

South African Hockey

 

Both the Senior and U/21 South African National Women's Hockey sides have made regular use of SUSPI's service offerings, visiting the Coetzenburg Sport Campus for training camps as part of their preparation for international competitions. The National Men's U/21 team has also trained in Stellenbosch.

South African Rugby

 

The highly successful Springbok Sevens team currently uses SUSPI as a training base as part of their preparation for the IRB's International Sevens circuit. The team makes use of a full suite of services, including accommodation, fields, the gymnasium, medical support and recovery.  The South African national ladies' rugby team has also visited SUSPI on various occasions for training and sport science testing. We have also prepared the South African Schools, -Academy, and –Student teams for their respective international encounters by providing services in recovery and sports medicine.

High Performance Academies:

 

Western Province Rugby Institute

 

The Western Province Rugby Institute is charged with finding and developing the top young rugby talent in the Western Cape, thereby acting as a feeding pipeline for one of South Africa's most hallowed rugby franchises, namely Western Province. The Institute currently uses SUSPI as a base for ten months of the year, while also utilising a comprehensive suite of services in the fields of sport science and medicine.

Western Cape Sport Academy

 

The Western Cape Sport Academy (WECSA) strives to develop excellence in sport through the coordination and facilitation of services to athletes, coaches, officials and administrators. SUSPI has provided sports science services to WECSA in the codes of badminton, netball and volleyball.

Professional Teams:

 

The following professional teams have visited the sport campus within the last two years for training and/or SUSPI services.

 

German National Women's Hockey Team

 

The German National Women's Hockey team recently trained in Stellenbosch as part of their preparation to play against their South African counterparts – a contest that also took place at the Coetzenburg Sport Campus.

Kaizer Chiefs Football Club

 

Over the past few years Kaizer Chiefs have trained in Stellenbosch on three occasions – twice as preparation for the Vodacom Challenge, a three-team pre-season exhibition tournament, and once as part of their mid-season preparation during the local league season.

Other Clients:

 

Absa Cape Epic

 

The ABSA Cape Epic is the largest mountain bike stage race in the world, with more than 1000 riders competing over a distance of 900 km in a 9-day period. For the past three years SUSPI has been the official provider of physiotherapy and sport massage services to the riders during the event.

Stellenbosch University Sport Teams (Maties)

 

Stellenbosch University has a proud sporting heritage, with many of its teams having achieved great success over the years. SUSPI currently provides a wide variety of services to a number of these teams, including the codes of rugby, hockey, netball, swimming and football, among others.
